art auction

Saturday and Sunday was amazing. The night before the sneak peak I had all these horrible dreams that I forgot to do something and they changed the location but I hadn't known. But the art auction surpassed every expectation I had. Saturday night I helped out at the merchandise table, it was great to see all the people come in and talk to them. I also just had a great time hanging out with my group members. As Saturday night went on the auction turned into a mean dance party. The performers were unbelievable, and the BICAS people were wonderful. It was great to see everyone unwind considering how stressed out its been leading up to this. Sunday night was also amazing. I loved helping out and seeing everything being bid on. I was excited to see my sculpture being bid on and my earrings were in a bidding war. I had a great time overall. I also won 3 amazing necklaces. I think this journey was amazing and although I'm glad its over I would love to participate in it again next year. Great job guys!

as i look back on the semester and the experiences i have had in this class i feel a great sense of accomplishment...i have never participates in anything like this before and to be able to see the end result (the auction) and be able to look back on our process through the blog, pics and other projects we has in our groups is amazing. everyone did such a great job and i was so glad to have this experience. the auction looked like it was a huge success! i think that more people and more classes at he university should colaborate with programs like BICAS.

We did it!

Last night was the art auction and it was so great! It was jam packed with people wanting to participate and be around art! How wonderful is that? This weekend was hectic and crazy but well worth it. Saturday afternoon was art install and it seemed like everything was slowly coming into place. I had the task of making boutonnieres and cutting poster tubes for the posters that they sold. I think my favorite part of last night had to be when I was helping find art to add Saturday night's bids on the bid sheets. I didn't know what the art looked like, I only had a number! But apparently I did it fast and efficiently because I was told I should work for BICAS by one of the directors! I felt like that was a great way to end my night.

Thank you to everyone that has made this experience awesome! It has been a great semester and it happened with everyone's hard work and dedication!

Tonight was the Art Auction! Finally! I went and checked out the preview party last night-and had such a great time! The art pieces were amazingly hung up and the sculptors were displayed perfectly! There was such a turnout last night!

Tonight--right now, actually!--is THE Art Auction! I went a few hours ago while everything was being set up. Nerves and excitement were all over the place! The workshop outreach group and I had intended to hold a smaller workshop for kids tonight...to make little wallets and coloring pages... Unfortunately, things don't always go as planed and as we have all figured out earlier, one must have a laid back and flexible mind set. Accumulation of different things made our workshop too chaotic to hold it successfully.

Luckily, my team and I have all our hours-so there was no issue there... We were able to enjoy the event without much "responsibility..."

I am SO proud of my group! We all worked so hard and put so much effort into this event. Go team!

Documentation + Reflection

I finished my documentation and reflection last night! Phew! It was actually an interesting paper to write, mainly because it helped me to really take some time to look back on this entire semester. I wish more classes did something like this. It is so easy to go through the entire 16 weeks of a semester and never really look back on how you've learned and have grown in different areas. The reflection was rewarding and very much enjoyable! It seems strange to me that this class is almost to an end. It has been most enjoyable and delightful! And I have learned so much!
These are pictures I found on tucsoncitizen.com from the preview last night.

Art Auction 12.4.10

Success!

The art auction tonight had a great turn out with tons of friends and people scouting out the goods! Emma, Jessica and I manned the merchandise area tonight and had a great time getting to mingle with people, encouraging them to purchase fun bike items. It was so great to see our very own hand-made items go home with people. Jessica sold one of her very own beautiful necklaces to a lady tonight. She was so excited!

Upon going to the art auction tonight, I was nervous. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, except that I had been told that things often got chaotic. And, I also am very out of my comfort zone when I am in large groups of people. However, as the night progressed, I started to feel more comfortable and really enjoyed myself :-) There were 3 different live bands/performers along with a very interesting interpretive puppet show. The crowd was great at participating and really getting involved. I am glad I got to see that cultural side of Tucson that I don't often get to experience. A lot of people who live there whole life in Tucson, like me, go the entire time rarely getting to experience the rich culture that Tucson contains. It is a true treasure.

I am bummed that I won't be able to attend the art auction on Sunday. I'm excited for BICAS, and hope that tomorrow is an even greater success!b

Staying engaged: the last stretch

I've already written my reflection, but I think I need to follow my own advice when it comes to documentation. I considered the small things I wrote in my notes, things like "I learned X today, and it made me feel Y, which does Z". Why not jot down a few ideas and notes on the blog instead?

I have been thinking a lot lately about how everything I've done in school this year will carry over to the future. It's important to keep things you learn in mind when you continue to practice them. GOOD practice makes perfect.

Something I'm going to try and keep in mind every day is to stay engaged with the things I feel passionately about. I shouldn't let many things get in the way--if I keep putting these seemingly intangible things (like really understanding what I want to accomplish as a teacher) on the backburner, it's never going to happen.

The same thing goes for immediate events like simply keeping up with getting things done for the art auction, and telling people about it. Get stuff done, keep your head up!

So Close!

Yesterday I had a phone interview with La Monica Everett-Haynes from UA News. I spoke with her about our class involvement with the BICAS auction and was exited to hear from Marissa today that she will be joining us at our symposium. Yesterday was also exciting in the way of Casey coming to class and giving us more specifics about the auction. I think it made a lot of people realize how close the event actually is. I spent some time yesterday re-flyering to insure that they word gets out and lots of people attend. I am curious to see if we have been successful in expanding the audience of the action. Since I have never been before, I must rely on Casey feedback for this information.
See you at the auction!!
