Finding inspiration was the hardest part. I went to BICAS with my family to look at what kinds of broken bike parts there were to use for creating a piece. My dad was already busy rummaging around, since it was intending to create a piece too. He knew exactly what he wanted to do and I was standing there, completely immobilized with all the possibilities. It wasn't until I held a bike gear and thought about when the art auction was taking place than it hit me. An ornament! I took several home and with some embroidery floss, I weaved it through the pieces, reminiscent of a dream catcher.
The question still lingered in my mind about if it would be good enough. However, I found that BICAS takes any sort of art at any skill level for the auction. I changed my perspective. It's not about how good the piece is or even if it sells. It's about participating in a project and contributing whatever I can to that project. I have the opportunity to be a part of a real artist's auction and as an artist myself, I should take any opportunity to expose myself and put forth my work whenever I can.
