BICAS Auction!

Working the BICAS Pre-Auction Set-Up on December 3, 2011 was hectic but fun! Before Kasey Stuart and I arrived at the warehouse in which the auction would be held, we didn’t know what to expect. But upon arrival, we noticed how much more work needed to be done to get the Pre-Party in order.

We were assigned to the print gallery, which was already being prepared by Angie Zimmerman and Megan Howe. After they laid out the prints, attached binder clips, and attached artist information, Kasey and I began cataloguing the artworks and making bid sheets for each one.

Megan Howe had the original idea to hang the works against a colorful background. She cut and hung the twine on which the prints would hang. Kasey and I were soon put in charge of hanging the 40+ prints. We worked together to curate a spontaneous exhibit that placed prints against a complementary background, while creating a thoughtful transition from one piece to another. Using our museum experiences helped us in this process, resulting in a beautiful exhibit of the prints and allowing for the public to view each piece as equal to the others.

After 5 hours, we looked around to find that several people had left! We were so engrossed in our work and finishing in a timely manner that we forgot where we were and who was supposed to be around us! LOL. But although everyone had gone, in all I had a blast working with Kasey curating a show that helped BICAS and their eventual auction.
