Bike Art in Oro Valley...week 2

For the second week of the BICAS workshops via Oro Valley, the same students appeared (about 10 sixth graders, and 9 8th-10th graders). Students were eager to see how their work turned out from the previous week.

Meanwhile, during the week, I had the opportunity to make it over to BICAS for more bike parts, so that students had more to work with than bottle caps, magazines and glue, since they had used up my supplies so quickly. The students were very excited about their creations, as they got their hands dirty. Exclamations such as "Wow!" and "Cool!" could be heard as students focused on their projects successfully. The process of waiting for the glue to dry was as much a part of the art making as the finished product.

All week I had the BICAS art on my desk, drying and waiting. (It really only took the weekend for it to dry, but that is where I had left it to dry). Curious students made remarks about the creations, and left me wondering if more would be in for week three. However, week two brought back the same students to finish their creations.

No parents, and only one teacher made it to the workshop. I was pleased to have a teacher stop in, as I had personally requested for his attendance. He didn't stay long, but his support was enough to make an impression on the students that he was interested in their success.

Next week we will take a hiatus, and make sugar skulls in recognition of Halloween and Dias de los Muertos. This will also be in conjunction with Megan Howe's sugar skull workshops.
