Tonight I went out to work on the second portion of my group's missions; advertising. Our group decided that in our efforts to give BICAS more attention on the University campus we would get the word out in a playful manner by creating spoke cards. These cards feature an image on one side and the BICAS website address on the opposite. Originally we had planned to place spoke cards on bicycles around campus but as I began lurking around the bike racks plotting which ones would receive a BICAS spoke card, I became very aware of the people watching me and very anxious about potentially angry bicycle owners. So, that being said I decided so less obviously advertise amongst the bicycles by attaching the spoke cards to the bike racks themselves so that the decision to take a spoke card would be made by the bike owner or the passerby.
I liked the more optional interaction with the spoke cards. I then decided that should the night be particularly windy, or naturally torturous in any other way, it would be smart to have some indoor options. In the main hallway of the Art Building on the UA campus I created a spoke card station where the spoke cards are displayed and offered for free to anyone who sees them.
After finishing my advertising adventure I decided that I was extremely pleased with the method of endorsement we chose to display BICAS. It was humorous and non-obtrusive and I feel like it was a method very fitting to BICAS and their efforts. It was fun for me and I think those who find a spoke card will feel just as giddy as being lucky enough to find a little present whose only aim is to brighten their day....and maybe to get some free advertising...but brightening their day, that's the important part.
