Our holiday card making workshop at the Armory Park community center went really well! The turnout was even better than we expected. Sarah and I started the workshop by telling the group a little about ourselves and about BICAS. Some of the ladies were very interested in the organization and planned to get their bikes fixed up over there.
The craft room at the center is so nice with lots of room to spread out. We set up one main table with the majority of our supplies so everyone could have easy access to the blank cards, embellishments, and envelopes. We set out six sample cards next to the materials for inspiration, but these women seemed to be seasoned crafters. They came up with so many great ideas of their own! The atmosphere was very relaxed. Sarah and I were able to spend most of our time walking around to each table to help out whenever it was necessary. It was wonderful to see how each person came up with a unique interpretation of the project.
Everybody who attended the workshop walked away with at least two or three completed cards. We had a few requests to return before Christmas with more patterns and ideas to share. Sarah and I had so much fun getting to know these ladies while watching their creativity unfold. The activities director for Armory Park was also so helpful and encouraging. They would love to have regular workshops led by students in our program. We've already talked about going back soon!
