Making Cards at Armory Park

On our way to Armory Park Center last Sunday, Jenna and I were (ever so slightly) fretting about the number of participants that we might have at our workshop : zero.  We hoped to have at least three people attend. Three people and we would be pleased enough and feel like we had a successful workshop.  When we walked into the center, Alfredo the program director greeted us and lead us over to the game room where he was finishing up a game of Wii bowling with some of the seniors. Within minutes, this lovely lady kicked his butt at bowling, then asked us if we were the card-making girls and she and her friends told us they were excited to join us for the afternoon.
With that, we grabbed our things and headed to the craft room that the center so wonderfully offered us for our workshop.  A Hawaiian quilting class was just finishing up, so some of the women participating  in it stuck around for ours. Everyone was very welcoming and accommodating.  They offered up the craft supply closet for us to use, which we were delighted about (they had a lot of wonderful vintage materials in there) , and left us to do our thing. We had example cards prepared to get started with, which helped out quite a bit, and our participants came in with a lot of great ideas as well.  For two hours, we chatted with the women (the gentlemen at the center weren't quite as interested in making holiday cards- go figure ;) , helped them with their supplies, provided cutting assistance when needed, and offered up Jenna's holiday cookies that she brought...as if a workshop would ever be held without them. Everyone who came was able to make at least three or four cards to take home with them.  From our standpoint, the ladies seemed very happy with the workshop and what they produced. Many of them asked us to come back again before Christmas (which we are trying to plan for) so they could finish off their holiday card list!  We had a wonderful time at our workshop, and I felt like it was definitely successful.  We are hoping to make it back soon, and will certainly follow up with a posting about that event.
