My First Workshop

I went to the school a couple hours early to set up, see the art room, and make some necessary changes if need be. I knew I would need a group system due to the collaborative art piece. The job for the little kids was to put a hand print on the board. My sister also wanted me to show the students some of my artwork. Everything that needed to be done was running around in my mind plus the 45 minutes I had to do it in was making me nervous. Once the kids came in, I was introduced, and I showed them my artwork we started into the lesson. It was fairly easy once we got the kids started, they warmed up to me quickly. We had the groups set up so one group at a time would come up and put their hand prints on the board, wash up and go back to making their bracelets. After they each finished their own bracelet I asked them to, if they wanted to, make a bracelet for BICS. I was happy that so many took advantage. Even though there was so much going on it went smoothly. the one thing my sister told me at the end was for next time to adjust my vocabulary and the way i worded things, because I was a little too advanced for the little kids. This did not surprise me, teaching little kids is not my thing, I have always geared towards the older kids. My next workshop is tomorrow with the 3rd through 5th grade and my wish is for it to go just as smoothly.
