So, keeping in mind that we wanted our workshop to be informative, we also wanted anyone who had a little bit of time to be able to walk up and make something cool that they could be really proud of and excited about. We decided that in order to do this, the bike bags should be relatively simple, and have a little bit of variety in terms of the time required to create them. After a little bit of playing around with different designs, we came up with the basic templates for workshop participants to choose from, and came up with a few new ideas in the mean time!
For people who had a little bit of extra time, and wanted to make their bag a little bit fancier, we thought to use repurposed inner-tubes to create attachable flowers (among other hand cut and interesting designs)! Combined with the fact that the templates come in different patterns and there was also a large range of thread colors available, it is safe to say that each bag would be unique!
To make it easier for our workshop to run smoothly, we also drew up some templates explaining how to assemble the bags, with some simple instructions on sewing and attaching the fastener (which was also repurposed from bike parts). These instructions are great because not only would they be helpful to anyone attending the workshop who need help with assembling their bag, but they could also be added to BICAS' catalog of art instructions and activities to hopefully be used in the future!
At this time, we also finished up the spoke cards, got all the organizing done in terms of how the workshop was going to be set up and who would bring what, etc., and mainly just got really excited to see what our turnout would be like. Still posting fliers and advertising for the big day, it was only a short amount of time until the workshop was here!
