Sugar skulls!

Sugar Skulls Workshop Preparation

After Megan spoke with Casey, who explained that she would love to learn how to make sugar skulls, we began preparing for a the workshop we would hold at BICAS on October 25, 2011.

This process involved shopping in Megan's house! She had already done the Sugar Skulls Workshop at Fenster Boarding School, the high school where she teaches, so she already had the materials. 10 pounds of sugar, along with a bag of merengue, the sugar skull molds (which I believe were borrowed from Carrie Vonier), and mixing bowls were all readily available at Megan's house.

In conceptualizing the Sugar Skulls Workshop, we wanted to educate others on the process of art-making and Day of the Dead culture. We imagined our audience to be limited to visitors who happened to be at BICAS. Unable to advertise, I think this might be the case! But no worries, hopefully we get to teach others while playing with sugar :)
